Our Translucent White "Shoot-Thru" Umbrella offers two different qualities of light with its removable black cover: a diffused light source and a soft white bounce. With the opaque black cover removed, you can point your flash unit towards your subject and shoot through the translucent white material for a diffused, soft light source. This diffusion will minimize the shadows on your subject, and create a large wash of soft light. With the black cover in place, it becomes a bounce umbrella providing a soft white bounce to brighten the total scene.

An umbrella will produce a result similar to an equivalent size softbox. The beauty dish look can be approximated with a small (32") shoot through umbrella, while being lighter, cheaper and easier to handle than a beauty dish. A similar effect can be obtained with larger umbrellas placed farther back from the subject.

The measurement of inches refers to the arc length across the top of the umbrella when opened. The U48 48-inch umbrellas measure 48 inches over the outside arc and 38 inches in diameter.

Our umbrellas mount simply, with or without the reflector, for heightened bounce or bare bulb configuration. The umbrellas are additionally fashioned with long poles to easily adjust the distance between the light source and the umbrella. For travel, the umbrellas have a snap to fasten to close when not in use.

The TWB Umbrella: The TWB Umbrella ( U48TWB ** as pictured below) is a translucent white shoot-thru umbrella, having a removable black cover that arrives in place on the umbrella. This can remain on the umbrella, allowing the umbrella to be used in the bounce position, creating a soft white bounce. This cover can additionally be removed by gently pulling the white caps off of each umbrella spoke. When removed, the umbrella may be used in the shoot -thru position, for a soft diffused output.

The SW and GS Umbrellas: The SW Umbrellas (U32SW, U48SW and U60SW) and the GS Umbrellas (U32GS, U48GS and U60GS) are reversible umbrellas, offering two different qualities of bounced light. To use either side, the umbrella panel may be removed and reversed by gently pulling the white caps off of each umbrella spoke.
