Announcing CyberSync™ 2.4GHz Radio Remote Control systems.

  • Designed by Paul C. Buff – Made in America – Advanced all-digital design
  • Extended operating range – High signal integrity and error immunity
  • 2.4GHz band – 16 selectable frequencies for eliminating interference
  • Battery drawer – One year plus transmitter battery life
  • Tripper-only and advanced remote control models

The CyberSync 2.4GHz trigger-transmitter and companion CyberSync™ Trigger-receiver are the first of a series of advanced remote control components designed by Paul C. Buff and made in America. These products are now in FCC testing. We anticipate first deliveries to begin sometime during May 2008. Please check our website for further information on the exact introduction date.

The CyberSync system is an advanced binary encoded system with a high degree of error security to assure freedom from false tripping. The system employs sixteen selectable operating frequencies within the 2.4GHz band to allow rejection of interference signals as well as interaction from other photographers who might be using radio controls in the area. This is vastly superior technology to Asian designed trippers that use pulse width encoding with no error detection.

Our initial testing indicates a usable range of 120 to 500 feet, depending on obstructions such as walls or adverse conditions such as metal buildings, bodies of water, etc.

CyberSync™ Trigger Transmitter . . . $59.95 – Anticipated shipping May 2008

This small hotshoe mounted flash trigger transmitter responds to the camera sync signal and sends the radio signal on one of sixteen selectable frequencies (Banks). The use of selectable frequencies provides increased integrity in the presence of interference signals over other systems that use a single frequency and merely vary the encoding to determine operating channels or banks.

The transmitter contains a lithium coin cell type battery in a convenient slide out tray for easy replacement. Battery life is in excess of one year in typical use, without requiring an on/off switch. Inexpensive replacement batteries are commonly available at drug stores such as Walgreens, etc. There are no wires or cords involved as the transmitter simply slides onto you hotshoe and is always ready to go. A Test button is provided for firing the system manually.

CyberSync™ AC Powered Trigger Receiver . . . $69.95 - Anticipated shipping May 2008

The CyberSync™ trigger receiver is AC powered (50VAC to 260VAC, 50/60HZ). It has a one foot power cord that attaches to your AC powered light unit and an AC receptacle into which your existing power cord connects. Thus the receiver hangs from your light unit on its one foot cord without added power cords.

A 3.5mm sync jack connects to your light unit via supplied two-foot cord. Terminations for 3.5” mini phone jacks and 1⁄4” full size sync jacks are provided.

The receiver has a sixteen-position frequency (Bank) switch and a test button. Setting the switch to the same frequency as the CyberSync™ transmitter causes the receiver to fire your light whenever the transmitter sends a fire command on this same frequency. Since you manually set the frequency there is no need to reset after power-down or battery changes.

The CyberSync™ transmitter/receiver pair may be used to trigger all Paul C. Buff, Inc. studio flash units as well as most other flash brands employing a standard phone jack or mini phone jack sync input. Connection to flash units using “H” or “PC” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cables.

It is generally advisable to use a separate receiver for each flash unit in your system, though it is feasible to use only one receiver connected to one of your flash units and allowing additional flash units to fire via their flash-sensitive trippers. This method, however, will not result in freedom from tripping by flashes from other photographers who might be shooting in the same area. If you are using our LG4X or RC1 wired remote system it is possible to connect one receiver to the wired remote control and to allow the connected lights to fire from the remote wiring without interaction with other photographers.

Einstein, Cyber Commander and CyberSync Plus

 Einstein™  . . . Anticipated release date Summer/Fall 2008 . . . Price to be determined

Einstein™ is an entirely new series of Paul C. Buff professional monoflash units.

Most current “digital” flash units are merely analog units with digital controls added. Paul C. Buff designed Einstein™ from the ground up in conjunction with The Technology Kitchen (Austin Texas) to fully exploit the capabilities of digital technology as it applies to photographic lighting.

The capabilities of the Einstein system are far too numerous to mention here, but suffice it to say Einstein™ promises to redefine the art of professional studio flash in no uncertain terms.

 Cyber Commander™ Wireless controller . . . Anticipated release date Summer/Fall 2008 . . . Price to be determined

Cyber Commander™ is a highly advanced wireless remote controller under concurrent development with the Einstein series monolights. It brings an unheralded degree of total system control right to the hotshoe of your camera.

We promise the capabilities of Cyber Commander™, like those of Einstein, will surprise and delight users of the most advanced (and expensive) flash systems in the world.

 CyberSync Plus™  AC powered full-function receiver . . . $89.95 - Anticipated release date Summer/Fall 2008

The CyberSync Plus™ receiver is code-compatible with both the CyberSync™ transmitter (trigger-only) and the Cyber Commander™ (Full parameter wireless controller) above.

When used in combination with the Cyber Commander™ and virtually any Paul C. Buff studio flash manufactured since 1986 that has a remote control jack, CyberSync Plus™ receiver brings complete control of up to 16 independently controlled light units, using 16 frequencies (Banks) for security and error rejection.

This combination goes far beyond simple power adjustment, displaying and controlling such parameters as WS, Model Watts, Color Temperature, Flash Duration, Euro Numbers and even camera apertures in actual f-stops, from each light or from all lights in the system. This is only a partial list of some of the advanced features.

All this in digital 1/10 f-stop increments from Paul C. Buff lights back to 1986, including White Lightning, AlienBees, Zeus and Einstein. Perhaps “Alchemy” might have been a better name.

Trade In/Buy Back program for RFT1 customers

In an effort to maintain our hard-earned customer respect and confidence we are offering a full trade in/buy-back program for all prior buyers of our RFT1 Radio Tripper System. The reason for this is simple:

A well-established Chinese photo lighting manufacturer offered the RFT1 system to us in 2006. After intensive testing and evaluation we began to offer this low cost wireless tripper system to our customers. The first several thousand units performed extremely well and were extremely well received by our customers.

As time progressed, particularly during the past eight months, the design changed without warning or notice and we began to get increasing customer complaints of random firing of receivers, interference from adjacent receivers and short transmitter battery life. After extensively working with the manufacturer we found them unable to determine what changes had occurred in their production or to come up with fixes. Several intense cycles of supposed fixes, promises and continuing problems followed, so we set about to design an American made product that we could confidently offer to our valued customers.

Concurrent with this announcement we are discontinuing further sales of the RFT1 trippers and offering the following buy-back program for all past RFT1 customers:

 1. Any buyer of any model of a CyberSync transmitter or receiver, CyberSync Plus receiver or Cyber Commander wireless controller may opt to return a previously purchased RFT1 transmitter or receiver of any age for the full original purchase price of $39.95, exclusive of shipping charges or taxes. This is a one for one offer – buy one CyberSync product and receive return credit for one RFT1 module.

 2. Customers may exercise this option in one of two ways:

            A. Buy any CyberSync product(s) at the full price listed above under our normal 60-day satisfaction guarantee and you will receive a certificate allowing you to mail back your RFT1 module for the $39.95 credit within this 60-day period. Once we receive the RFT1 module and certificate we will credit your account or your credit card as soon as we receive the returned RFT1.

            B. If you prefer, you can mail in your RFT1 module(s) in advance and place an order for CyberSync module(s). When we receive your RFT1(s) and order, we will discount the CyberSync price by $39.95 for each RFT1 (again, on a one for one basis) and ship the CyberSync. To exercise this option we suggest you check with us before hand to make sure the CyberSync product(s) are in stock and ready to ship at the time you return your RFT1(s). You will, of course, receive our usual 60-day satisfaction guarantee on any new CyberSync product.

3.  If you don’t wish to purchase CyberSync at this time and are dissatisfied with RFT1 modules you have purchased, please note we have extended the satisfaction guarantee period for RFT1 products to 120 days from your date of purchase.
